Bus badges keep students safe and families informed

It’s School Bus Safety Week!

This school year, in our ongoing commitment to enhance safety at every point in a students’ school day, the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District implemented a bus badge system at all elementary schools.

Students who ride the bus have personalized badges that are scanned when they get on and off the bus, allowing parents and guardians to know through an app the exact time and location that a student enters and exits the bus.

Not only do they give parents peace of mind, but the bus badges will also alert drivers if a student is trying to get off at the wrong stop. Debra Fullmer, one of our amazing bus drivers, walks through how the badges work in the below video

"Parents know their kid got off the bus — that they're not sitting at school or have wandered off," Fullmer said.

Maple Lawn Elementary 5th grader Kenya said the badges are easy to use. Hers is attached to her backpack on a retractable clip.

"The bus driver needs to know if you're on the bus or not so that they can get you home safely," added fifth grader Rachel.

This new bus badge system is another step toward keeping our kids safe, our families informed and our school days running smoothly.
